Be Smart!

•Classes and Private Lessons•

Students benefit from group classes. At a rate of $14.17 per hour, the concepts are taught and tested to gage retention and the ability to follow procedures independently in preparation of homework assignments. Serious, mature students who take responsibility for their learning and homework will do excellently in a class.

If a student is unable to complete homework, this suggests that they are unable or unwilling to follow procedures outlined in the textbook and class. While a child may understand when the teacher shows examples on the whiteboard, they may be paralyzed in their own attempts by fear, uncertainty, lack of short term/long term memory or inertia. The sooner we identify the cause and address that issue, the better. Classes follow a schedule to cover the material in a 12-week period. Consequently, if the student requires further clarification and additional personal oversight, it is best to achieve this through supplemental private lessons.

Working within limited class time, students may be required to complete tests at home. Parents must ensure that these tests are completed and returned the following class. In harmony, Peter scans each test, marking the scanned copy and returns it with the original unmarked. Serious students are will correct their mistakes. Level-8 is a two-hour high school level exam. Level-9 through level ARCT are three-hour University Level Exams.

•Parental Obligations•

It is essential that parents provide the school with phone numbers and email, so instructors may contact you. Parents are solely responsible to ensure that homework as outlined in the assignment planner in the front of the book is completed. Parents are responsible to ensure adequate time is allotted in the student’s schedule in order to complete required work, including memorisations/retention essential to the procedures and class. Parents must arrange private lessons with the instructor or assistants as needed.

•Required Materials•

Yellow highlighters; 2 dark, sharp pencils or a mechanical with refills B lead, eraser, ruler. Lined paper for history class.

•Required Gold Medal Winning Textbooks•

Authors Lynn and Peter Ware wrote the required class textbooks, published by Acoma Company. They offer a consistent, organized approach allowing a comfortable progression and transition through the RCMusic theory requirements. Caution with the Answer Book: Correct answers are derived from following procedures. Check answers by repeating the procedure or with the answer book. Correct mistakes by repeating the procedure. Never Copy from the answer book. We recommend parental supervision for younger students. Textbook prices on this page are for students who enroll in classes or private lessons at Ware Academy of Music. Theory of the Spheres: Level 5-8 Answer Book $35.

Peteer Ware teaching RCMusic Level 10 Harmony & Counterpoint Class

• Theory Classes•

Music students are busy. Daily practice requirements intermingle with school homework and a variety of athletic and extra classes. Music theory, harmony and history classes require a dedicated minimum of one hour of work per day throughout the full week (7 hours of work per week). If the student misses a week, they need to complete the assigned homework and memory listed in the textbook. Plan to incorporate a private lesson with the instructor.

Students arrive early to have homework checked at the desk. Children with learning disabilities will require private lessons to supplement the classes. Enroll students who have forgotten their rudiments or harmony in private lessons at the start of the class to ensure understanding. Weekly tests allow parents to monitor progress, with mock exams at the end from the RCMusic Official Examination Papers.
